English Teachers of Gilbert A. Dater High School:
Summer is almost over. I hope your summer has been everything you wanted it to be. I'm so looking forward to seeing you again but this one went by pretty quick. I've got a few announcements to help you catch up on all that's been happening (and all that has not been happening) over the summer.
1. Mr. Sippel returns as our Principal. Ms. Adewusi returns as AP and Ms. Danielle Battle takes Ms. Uecker's spot. Ms. Battle and I worked together as teachers at Hughes STEM and she is going to be a great AP. When I talked to Sippel about 10 days ago, their duties had not been decided.
2. I'll be around the building for a few hours on 8/1 and 8/3. I'll also be around most of next week. (I'm weird--I need to come in from time to time during the summer to remember what it's like to be at school. It helps me remember all the things I need to do--even if I don't get a whole lot finished. I tend to go in and make messes then leave.) Stop by if you're in the building or if you need help.
3. On August 3, I'll be at Mayerson to learn about the updates to Springboard. I think it's going to be a lot easier to use. I'll update you on that soon.
4. The lower level book room is going to be an art room. Things are going to be rearranged and some of those books will be going upstairs into our second level book room. IF YOU WANT A CLASS SET OF ANTHOLOGIES LET ME OR SIPPEL KNOW ASAP. Jo has also been working on creating a comfortable space in our second level book room so that we'll have a quiet place to work when Mr. Dalton, our traveling teacher, might be in our classroom. Sippel is also planning a staff lounge area where traveling teachers will have a desk and a file cabinet. There will also be a table where other teachers can work during planning. (This will be in the room that Chris used last year as an office for the coaches.)
5. No one has yet been hired to fill Cindi Andrews position as ELA Curriculum Manager (or at least it has not been announced to me.) I'll let you know as soon as I know something. It remains unclear how the coaches will be distributed throughout the district.
I'll have more for you later. And I hope you are enjoying your last little bits of summer!
